Now... I realise it's unlikely you've seen weird wörds like these before (many of them are nöögles) so... if things look n feel a bit confusing, please take your time. Jumping into Ÿ always kinda starts at a deep end, as far as wörds go. We've yet to find any other way. If it helps, try keeping in mind this is all kwestjinMark's idea and sometimes (more often than not to be fair) these can be quite uhmmm... interesting... to put it mildly... and pretty hard to follow, until you get the hang of it.

So... I'm going to try my level best to clear things up a bit, in this preface, by offering you an answer to this quick question in practical terms.

And believe me when I tell you, I've asked km this exact question like a bazillion times over the years too: Why do we need this glictionarÿ? 🤷🏼‍♂️ What's it for? His reply seems obvious, straight-forward and simple: wörds.

But that's nowadays... after he eventually realised he has to slow down a bit.

I clearly remember the first time he actually answered me:

Oh... and fwiw, Ÿ is the backronym for (the) glictionarÿ... in case that wasn't too obvious. It's become our logo too.

If that's what Ÿ is for... what are wörds?

At a fundamental level, wörds are words you invent. They're unique strings of Unicode characters you 'think up', devise or design and, once you've mïnted them in the glictionarÿ (ie tokenized your Unicode strings), they're wörds you öwn... as in, they're yours forever (unless you want to give them to someone, or trade them, or can't remember where you left your keys), all made possible by some blockchain and NFT wizardry under the covers.

What's super special about these urls (or hyperlinks in old-fashioned web-speak) is, although wörds are mïnted as NFTs, etched irrevocably and forever... untouchable in the blockchain slash permaweb, their backstürlys can be changed, by whomever öwns them!

And what are wörds?

wörds are Unicode strings you 'invent', then mïnt in the glictionarÿ as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)... which means they (and the record of who mïnted them) can never be changed and... because they're tokenized... you can öwn them.

While you're the öwner of a wörd, you control its backstürly, which is a link (url) to the story behind the wörd that can be changed... only by you.

Oh... I should mention something that might not be super obvious... you can tränsfër öwnership of wörds. That's actually quite important.

It lets you tokenize Unicode strings... ie all those wonderful extended characters and emoji that no DNS or arns or Internet fundamental like a username or email address will ever be able to handle... it seems.

We're on a mission to record, inter-connect and give structure to a bewildering mind-map of an idea... of a process... an understanding... lived experience... and a journey toward enlightenment despite some mind-blowing setbacks, recorded haphazardly in snippets and demarcated with weird wörds that we believe, ultimately, needs telling.

Somehow, in and amongst everything we're mïnting... and the convoluted chronicles we're contributing to this glictionarÿ (and via all our backstürlys), we are determined to manifest and share mëgämörphthësïs... our theory - and praxis - about really (really!) big change.

This is our primary raison d'etre for creating Ÿ

Somewhat inconveniently, Hashtäg (or # as I prefer to call him in a hurry) insists we answer this QUICK QUESTION before he's willing to deploy glictionarÿ v1.0 and we can finally start using it; so I'm kinda snookered until we get this done.

What is Ÿ for k ?

That's pretty easy. For us it's part tool, part medium... ultimately a means to an end.

In the end, Ÿ will contain, connect and protect everything we know about mëgämörphthësïs, our theory about - and lived experience through - very big change.

We could of course be posting all this stuff on other platforms out there on the interwebs but... we chose this path for some quite particular reasons:

First and foremost, we'll secure our wörds in here. That's why I use the word container... a creative-rights-protecting container in fact. Any wörds we invent (which we love to do) will remain ours. Period.

Secondly, we've given Ÿ a commercial aspect - so we can (a) invite YOU to mïnt your own wörds alongside us as we mïnt ours, to (b) generate a modest return in the process - in a bid to solve the most intractable financial challenge we've faced for a long, long time: #'s time-devouring, but income-producing dwörk.

The gluï... WTF?!?!

Uhmm... hello... I was just about to explain it.

Our third reason for building (the) glictionarÿ, is to house a new language we call gluï.

This is likely the best time and place to share some insight about it, so let me walk you through a mini gluï 101:

There's a knack to crafting good gluï imho, which has to do with how intuitively wörds are constructed, ie how you join them up and/or (un)scrünch them (if you feel there's a need to) and - of course - where you place the copÿdots.

Not all gluï is easy to pronounce, although it can be fun to try (can you say dwrïte ..? )... so generally, you just think it. Hashtäg and I have been thpëaking and inventing gluï for quite some time now... some of it good, some not-so-good, some of it downright awful. Please feel free to join in and help us flesh it out. We think gluï might end up being kinda AI-proof... you know... made by humans, for humans... and every new wörd gets solid provenance, attributed to its äüthör, as well as protection of his or her creative rights... right from the start.

For this mini-101... let's use Ÿ as a great example - an absolute masterpiece of gluï engineering, if I may say so myself:

In a single letter, Ÿ encapsulates a lot of detail, but in a teeny amount of bytes (seriously, it's like... 2 🥸), which means here in the digiverse, it's fast! To learn its deeper meaning, if not immediately apparent, you simply need to deconstruct (or (un)scrünch) it, and the copÿdots are the clue:

With an elegant gwörd, (see what I did there ..?) good gluï can be used to encapsulate complicated concepts, condense multi-faceted scenarios or rich, deep backstories in a brief, yet incredibly precise way that's uncannily easy to remember. And that is what makes gluï exceptionally useful, if not absolutely essential - for # and I - to manifest and share mëgämörphthësïs.

And as for the intuitiveness of gluï, try this: Because you've now 'got' the basics of this language... you've connected some dots, as it were... you should find it relatively easy to derive that wörds are very specifically 'words' mïnted in the glictionarÿ. And if they aren't in the glictionarÿ they can't be wörds. And if they aren't wörds, they can't be gluï... and all of that... is wrapped up in Ÿ

I am however entirely convinced that after this mini gluï 101, it's very unlikely you'll forget what wörds are, going forward. And even more so, Ÿ

wörds stand out from the many, many words out there in the world that are slowing everybody down and behind so many misunderstandings. wörds are fundamental to what we're doing here. And even though the rationale behind them might seem a little complicated... now you know. That's essentially what gluï - and this glictionarÿ - are all about, for us.

Crucially, however...

YOU, dear reader, may well find a completely different use for the glictionarÿ. In fact if you don't... we're going to be quite surprised.

We invite you to mïnt whatever you like, within reason and our community standards (please check the Terms of Use). You most certainly don't need to learn gluï or follow our convoluted content and endless banging on about mëgämörphthësïs if it doesn't resonate.
